In the nation of Ceannis, a prophecy has been revealed. Dragonslaying hero Thorn Estragon and his team of loyal knights must assume the solemn duty of…standing guard outside a foreign embassy. And that’ll save the world. Or something. It’s not clear.

Leif is a gardener at the embassy, serving his native Sønheim in order to pay off a mysterious debt. Thorn doesn’t speak Leif’s language too well when they first meet — but he’s about to find a lot of reasons to learn.

They’re the heart of an increasingly-broad ensemble of characters, all facing their own struggles to communicate across cultural boundaries, deal with traumas and scars, use magic for practical solutions, and pick the perfect song for karaoke night.

Updates seven days a week: six strips, plus Saturday bonus art.

For teens and up. (Don’t give this one to small children — it includes adult topics like graphic violence, PTSD flashbacks, stalking, and health insurance.)

Main Characters

Leif is a gardener and general-purpose lowest-tier servant at the Embassy of Sønheim in Ceannis. He went into servitude to pay off a debt of 52.4 million marks, for reasons he doesn't like to talk about. Heavily driven by guilt, though it feels lighter in Thorn’s presence.

Earnest and patriotic, Leif starts off taking it for granted that Sønheim is the best in the world at everything, whether it's music, grammar, cooking, or health insurance coverage. Extended time and conversation (and gradual falling in love) with Thorn chips away at that conviction.

Sir Thorn Estragon is a knight and national hero, having slain a dragon and (unlike most of his teammates) lived to tell the tale. If you do a cloudsearch on his name, you'll be inundated with articles that have more detail than you ever wanted to know.

After going through a lot of recuperation for serious burns (his left arm still has visible scarring and doesn't move like it used to), he's back on the job, and being rewarded with some nice uneventful guard duty at the Sønheim Embassy. There's a prophecy involved, but he doesn't know that.

Delphinium: Also known as Secret Agent D, from the time when her full name hadn't been revealed. Undercover vampire hunter, recruited after she was identified as an axe-wielder during heartsword training. Glamorous trans woman. Frequently partnered with the Woman in Black, not that she remembers it afterward.
