The drowned body of Mr. Morrison is discovered in the river one day after rumors of a criminal have spread. The boy Charlie is excited by the incident and tells his mother Anna that he will find the killer. Anna warns him not to and goes about her day collecting laundry. She returns to an empty home, but does not discover that her son has gone missing until the next morning. Anna immediately goes to the police for help, but they tell her that the criminal has been caught. Knowing that the criminal is still active, Anna does some detective work of her own.
