It has been many years since the dragons left the earth. Now only the dragon child Kairak remains to protect the balance. He too is preparing to leave once he reaches maturity, but a hunter has caught and poisoned him in order to steal the dragon pearl that is the source of his powers. A young girl named Reana is not aware of these struggles until her glider crash lands beside the dying dragon. The voice of Kairak’s servant Didan requests that she save him. Following Didan’s instructions, she is able to purity the poison. Kairak then asks her to stay because the pearl has merged with her in the process and he can not survive if the two are separated. They decide to live together for the next year until Kairak is old enough to take the pearl back.
Tragedy soon follows as the creature hunting Kairak possesses the body of her father, the only family she has left, and demands that she come with him instead. Reana risks herself to save her father by performing another purification and is devastated when he dies in the process. A group of dragon knights who were investigating a series of deaths caused by the hunter then appear to capture them, but Kairak takes his dragon form and flies them far away. Kairak tells Reana that he he has chosen her as her as his partner known as a Riyenas who is responsible for protecting the pearl of his power. A dangerous romance between a human and a dragon has begun.
