Michael is feeling increasingly unstable from his time spent in the Mars colony known as Devotion, but before his trip home he decides to show the newly arrived Dr. Rebekah the excavation site where everything started to feel wrong. He tries to confront Dr. Rebekah about his feelings of being controlled, but the conflict triggers a collapse and the two fall into a mysterious place called Mare Internum. There Michael meets an alien named Kallakore who decides to help Michal because it also wishes to escape, but it would seem that Mare Internum has a mind of its own.
